Valleys

I have been contemplating the valleys of Scripture. There are many, but a few resonated with me. I invite you to do a word search of “valley of” in your favourite Bible app. I use Bible Gateway.

The valley of weeping: Psalm 84:6 (NLT) – “When they walk through the valley of weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs.”

The valley of death: Psalm 23:4 (NKJV) – “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

The valley of trouble: Hosea 2:15 (NLT) – “I will return her vineyards to her and transform the Valley of Trouble into a gateway of hope.”

And then, there is this passage: Isaiah 40:3-5 (NLT) – “Listen! It’s the voice of someone shouting. ‘Clear the way through the wilderness for the Lord! Make a straight highway through the wasteland for our God! Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills. Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places. Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all the people will see it together. The Lord has spoken’.”

Are you going through a valley of weeping, of death, of trouble? There is hope. This valley may last a little while, but joy comes with the morning – “Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning” – Psalm 30:5 (NLT).

What these verses tell me is that nothing is permanent. There will be a day when the sorrow, the anxiety, the grief will be ended.

We have a hope: “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary”- Hebrews 6:19 (NLT).

This hope isn’t wishful thinking. It is anchored on a Rock, and this Rock is Christ – 1 Corinthians 10:4

You may not be experiencing any valleys. You may have already come through the valleys and have reached level ground. Praise God! Give thanks for His faithfulness. Pray for those who are still in the valley.

Wishing you a journey that will take you to level ground and mountaintop experiences!
